Lots of Play before back to school

It's almost time for Victoria to start Kindergarten. So we've been doing lots of playing.

A trip to Stone Mountain Park. Victoria let me check out the plantation because there was a chance of animals. While there she commented that the pigs had such long snouts so they could eat worms. I told her I didn't know about that. A little later a staff member commented to me that Victoria was correct. She LOVES the tv show Wild Kratts.

As we left the plantation she wanted to know what that 'little house' was. I said it was just some vending machines. She wanted to go see any way. Yes, you may run up there and back while I watch. She ran back with such glee!

After the plantation, we decided to check out the playground. It took her a while to find a way up that she was comfortable with, but she managed to find a way to the slides. And she made a new friend (Layla in the green dress). She played with Layla for the rest of the time. I even learned a new game from Layla's mom. Punchinella - you can see a video here
There was a nice group of us. Layla & her mom. Layla's Aunt and 3 cousins. And the Grandma & grandkids one of Layla's cousins ran off and just sat down to snack with. We had a wonderful time playing and chatting. Victoria practically cried when Layla couldn't come with us.

Time for a train ride around the mountain. Another fun thing while Mommy was trying to avoid going to Geyser Tower. And climbing on the rocks before getting our picnic from the car. We stayed for the laser show, and we didn't get rained out though we did get our ponchos from the car.

On Saturday we had a family outing to an animal sanctuary. Better than a zoo and it was free!

Sunday night we enjoyed some of the DCI (Drum Corps International) southeastern championship. Victoria began the night wearing earmuffs and playing Angry Birds. But after being there a couple of hours she warmed up and didn't need the earmuffs as often. She cheered most for the Bluecoats, even asking me to hold her pizza so she could clap mid performance. Yes, you may!

My daughter has Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic disease that causes mucus in the body to be unusually thick & sticky affecting many parts of the body including the respiratory system, digestive tract, and reproductive system. The thick sticky mucus in the lungs can provide germs a prime breeding ground for infections. Cystic Fibrosis doesn't affect the immune system, but the thick sticky mucus is harder to move and can make infections much more difficult to clear.

Most people with cystic fibrosis are pancreatic insufficient (PI) and need to take digestive enzymes with every meal. Being PI makes it difficult to gain weight and often results in needing to eat 150% calories of normal. Over half of people with CF eventually develop CFRD (Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes). While sharing some traits with Type I and Type II diabetes, it is distinctly different.

CF affects approximately 30,000 people in the USA (70,000 worldwide).

65 Roses is another name for Cystic Fibrosis because some children find it easier to say although that doesn't make it any easier to have. My daughter has no such difficulty. But there is a story behind the phrase.
